Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy like?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Treatment will begin with a full assessment of where you’re at, what symptoms you’re struggling with, goals you might have, and your overall history with mental and physical health. From there, we’ll decide together on a treatment approach that typically begins with more structured skills-building to get some of the most harmful behaviors under control, before moving towards a holistic approach that incorporates mind, body, and soul work to understand where these problems came from and to find a unique path to your peace and healing. My work with clients is person-centered, which means I value you as an expert of your experience and will often defer to you to determine what it is that you need from each session and in therapy overall. You can always expect therapy to be a space of no judgment and abundant compassion.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, your personal health information is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) which means what happens in therapy stays in therapy. That being said, there are a few rare exceptions in which legally I would be mandated to break confidentiality to protect your safety and the safety of others. If there is reasonable suspicion of child or dependent adult abuse, or harm to yourself or others, I am required by law to report this in order to protect your wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. We can talk more about what this might look like in our first session.

What age groups do you work with?

I specialize in working with young adult women, but do accept some adolescent clients on a case by case basis.

What treatments do you Use?

I am extensively trained in Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT) and Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), both of which are evidenced based practices for the treatment of perfectionism and eating disorders. I also incorporate elements of psychodynamic, existential, and narrative therapy with my clients in order to sustain long term recovery when maladaptive symptoms subside. Each client is different and will require a different approach, so I evaluate and work with you to determine what treatment modality would be most helpful for you.

Do you only work with eating disorders?

I am an eating disorder and body image specialist, but I also have a special interest in working with individuals who struggle with perfectionism and rigidity. I also have experience with clients in the entertainment industry who are struggling with identity and career distress.
